Middle Years Program (MYP)
The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) at GPS supports students aged 11 to 16 as they transition from elementary education to more specialized high school courses. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge and helps students make practical connections between their studies and the real world.
The MYP curriculum encourages students to integrate knowledge across various subjects, fostering deeper understanding and more meaningful learning experiences. As students engage with challenging concepts, they learn to analyze issues from multiple perspectives and develop creative solutions. The MYP offers flexibility in how students pursue their interests while meeting rigorous academic standards. GPS provides personalized support to help each student achieve their full potential.
The MYP at GPS also emphasizes the importance of service and action. Students are encouraged to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to initiatives that benefit the community.
The MYP at GPS prepares students for the academic challenges and opportunities of high school and beyond. By integrating interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and community engagement, our MYP students develop into independent learners and responsible citizens who are ready to lead in an ever-changing world.
International Baccalaureate
GPS is officially recognized as an International Baccalaureate World School. This is an important and defining feature of Granada Preparatory School. Our two programs, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) are curriculum frameworks that put our students’ learning into the context of the global society that they are going to be a part of in their adult lives. It provides our students with authentic learning experiences relevant to the “real” world through transdisciplinary instruction in which learning is not confined within the boundaries of traditional subject areas, but rather is supported and enriched by them. These programs engage our students in ways that are developmentally appropriate and expose them to best current educational practices from around the World. IB students are highly sought after by top universities both in the U.S. and worldwide because of their critical thinking ability, strength as researchers, and effective communication skills.
The aim of this program is to create internationally minded people who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, helping to create a better more peaceful world. It aims to achieve this by creating people who exhibit the attributes of the Learner Profile.
