IB Learner Profile

The IB Learner Profile represents the core values we aim to instill in every student at GPS. These attributes are integral to our educational philosophy and guide our students as they grow into compassionate and capable leaders.

Students nurture their curiosity and develop research skills for lifelong learning. Our curriculum ensures students explore concepts, ideas, and issues with both depth and breadth. GPS encourages students to apply critical and creative thinking skills to approach complex problems. Effective communication is key, whether students are expressing ideas in written, spoken, or visual formats. We emphasize integrity, fairness, and respect in all areas of student life.

Students at GPS appreciate their own cultures and are open to others’ perspectives and values. Empathy and respect guide student interactions and initiatives. Our students approach uncertainty with confidence and determination. GPS fosters a balanced approach to academics, extracurricular activities, and personal well-being.

We encourage students to thoughtfully consider their learning and experiences.

The IB Learner Profile is more than a set of values; it’s a way of life at GPS. These qualities shape our students’ development and are reflected in everything they do, from classroom learning to community involvement. By embracing these attributes, our students are prepared to navigate the complexities of the modern world with confidence and compassion.

International Baccalaureate

GPS is officially recognized as an International Baccalaureate World School. This is an important and defining feature of Granada Preparatory School. Our two programs, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) are curriculum frameworks that put our students’ learning into the context of the global society that they are going to be a part of in their adult lives. It provides our students with authentic learning experiences relevant to the “real” world through transdisciplinary instruction in which learning is not confined within the boundaries of traditional subject areas, but rather is supported and enriched by them. These programs engage our students in ways that are developmentally appropriate and expose them to best current educational practices from around the World. IB students are highly sought after by top universities both in the U.S. and worldwide because of their critical thinking ability, strength as researchers, and effective communication skills.

The aim of this program is to create internationally minded people who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, helping to create a better more peaceful world. It aims to achieve this by creating people who exhibit the attributes of the Learner Profile.
