Primary Years Program (PYP)

The IB Primary Years Program (PYP) at GPS is designed for students aged 3 to 12, providing a foundation for academic and personal growth. The PYP nurtures young learners to become curious, compassionate, and active participants in their education.

The PYP encourages students to ask questions and seek answers through guided exploration. Our inquiry-driven approach ensures that students are not only acquiring knowledge but also developing the skills needed to apply their learning in real-world contexts. Beyond academics, the PYP at GPS focuses on the emotional, social, and physical well-being of students. We strive to create a balanced learning environment that supports the development of the whole child.

The PYP curriculum is structured around transdisciplinary themes that allow students to make connections across subjects. These themes are globally relevant and designed to help students understand their place in an interconnected world.

The PYP at GPS is where young minds begin their journey of exploration and discovery. With a strong foundation in inquiry-based learning and holistic development, our PYP graduates are confident, capable, and ready to take on new challenges as they progress through their academic careers.

International Baccalaureate

GPS is officially recognized as an International Baccalaureate World School. This is an important and defining feature of Granada Preparatory School. Our two programs, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) are curriculum frameworks that put our students’ learning into the context of the global society that they are going to be a part of in their adult lives. It provides our students with authentic learning experiences relevant to the “real” world through transdisciplinary instruction in which learning is not confined within the boundaries of traditional subject areas, but rather is supported and enriched by them. These programs engage our students in ways that are developmentally appropriate and expose them to best current educational practices from around the World. IB students are highly sought after by top universities both in the U.S. and worldwide because of their critical thinking ability, strength as researchers, and effective communication skills.

The aim of this program is to create internationally minded people who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, helping to create a better more peaceful world. It aims to achieve this by creating people who exhibit the attributes of the Learner Profile.
